Scholastic Crime Stoppers

This internationally recognized program allows students to provide anonymous tips to the administration about crimes in the school. The students receive a monetary reward from $5 to $300 if the tip proves instrumental in solving the crime. The Scholastic Crime Stopper Program promotes school spirit, pride and responsibility and allows students to take action against victimization and crime.

Managed by the Birmingham Area Crime Stoppers program, students call the 254-7777 number and confidentially report the crime/incident to a deputy or officer. The student's name or face is never seen. The tip is then called in to the SRO at the school and school administration for investigation. There is never any danger to the student as his/her peers never know who informed. The typical stigma of the "snitch" is eliminated. The program is implemented in the middle and high schools. Modeled after metropolitan and county Crime Stoppers programs across the country, agencies can implement such a program on campuses in their jurisdictions and reap huge benefits for their communities.
